On Saturday, October 13th, the rural village of Chebaiywa, located in Western Kenya, gathered to honor World Hospice Day.  Living Room International hosted an awareness campaign to celebrate, support and speak up about hospice and palliative care. The event drew a crowd of thousands of people and was filled with sporting games and musical entertainment. Throughout the day, patients and carers shared about their experiences, and health-care workers provided information about the importance of HIV testing and screening for cancer. In addition, 120 women received screening for cervical cancer.
As the Living Room International team, we are privileged with the opportunity to provide holistic care to people living with life-limiting conditions in Kenya. We are grateful for the progress that has been made in reducing pain and suffering. On World Hospice Day, we celebrated this achievement. We remembered the lives of the guests who have been a part of our community and our care. And we were reminded that there is still much work left to be done.
