Dr Richard Harding

Richard is Herbert Dunhill Professor of Palliative Care at the Cicely Saunders Institute, King’s College London. He is Vice Dean (International), Director of the Centre for Global Health Palliative Care, and Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre. He is Visiting Professor of Palliative Care at the University of Cape Town. Trustee of Marie Curie, and Trustee of AIDS Impact. Richard originally trained in Social Sciences and Social Work and worked as HIV care manager before joining King’s College London to undertake his PhD. His research focuses on the global health dimensions of palliative care (particularly in sub-Saharan Africa), outcome measures (particular use of POS (www.pos-pal.org ) and intervention development and testing. He also has a strong interest in family caregiver outcomes. Richard’s research program supports his belief that evidence is a foundational building block of successful advocacy.
