Compassionate Korail, Bangladesh

The WHPCA and local partners are building a sustainable compassionate community for older people with life-limiting and terminal illness in the largest slum of Dhaka (Korail) and share the learning in 5 other target countries.

By building a compassionate palliative care programme which is fully sustainable in a vulnerable, slum environment and by sharing the lessons globally, we could see improved quality of life for older people living with life-limiting illness worldwide.

Our goal: To improve the quality of life of older people in an urban slum of Dhaka and to share the lessons learned and best practice across 5 other target countries.

Our objectives:

  1. To build a self-sustaining compassionate community model for older people with life-limiting conditions in the Korail slum of Bangladesh building on the palliative care pilot model
  2. To share learning relating to compassionate palliative care communities for older people from the Dhaka pilot project across our other 5 priority countries – Ethiopia, Jordan, Philippines, Panama and Ukraine.
