Sharon Baxter has been the Executive Director of the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association (CHPCA) for 14 years. Sharon holds a Masters of Social Work degree in Public Policy and Administration and has worked on national health policy for twenty-two years. CHPCA is the national association representing hospice palliative care in Canada. CHPCA carries out work in advocacy, policy development, knowledge translation in research, professional education, training, awareness and communications including social media. CHPCA host the Quality End-of-Life Care Coalition of Canada (QELCCC). The QELCCC is a coalition of 38 national organizations that have an interest in end of life issues.
Sharon sits on many national and international coalitions and committees looking at hospice palliative and end-of-life care issues specifically around health policy. Sharon sits on the Board of Trustees of the Worldwide Hospice Palliative Care Alliance (WHPCA) where she chairs the advocacy committee. Sharon also sits on the Board of Directors of the International Children’s Palliative Care Alliance (ICPCN) and the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) in the USA. Sharon often speaks at conferences around national health policy, Advance Care Planning and hospice palliative and end-of-life issues.
